Author Notes: Interior Designer Sharne Algotsson is an advocate for African inspired home decorating. She would like African design to be as familiar to the American market as it is internationally, a comfortable alternative to English country, French provincial, and other accepted styles.

The Spirit of African Design is the book Algotsson has co-authored with Denys Davis, another African-American. This book is an eloquently written and beautifully illustrated guide to bringing African art and design into everyday spaces. She has also been writer/editor of periodical articles which about design.

Algotsson owns a consulting firm, Inside Design, located in Philadelphia. Before establishing her own business, she worked for IKEA, an international interior design chain, and contributed to their unique design approach store catalog.

Algotsson grew up in Philadelphia where she now lives. She is a graduate of Howard University and has an advanced degree from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia.
