The goal of this day hike is to reach the summit of Mount Everett, Massachusetts' ninth highest mountain, where you will have a commanding view of the Taconic and Berkshire Ranges, the Housatonic River Valley, and the distant Catskills. You will pass by a number of waterfalls on the Race Brook Trail as you make your way up to the A.T. The highest fall is nearly 100 feet tall. The Hike From the trailhead on Massachusetts 41, hike west on the blue-blazed Race Brook Falls Trail. In .25 mile, the gradual ascent will get steeper as you climb up out of the valley. At mile1, there is a fine view of the Housatonic Valley, and at mile 2, reach a designated campsite with a privy and platforms for tents. In another .4 mile, reach the junction with the A.T. Turn right on the A.T. and begin climbing the south side of Mount Everett. After a .75-mile rocky and often steep climb, you will reach the open summit of Mount Everett.
