Author Notes: Laura Lee Hope is the pseudonym for Stratemeyer Syndicate ghost writers who happened to be assigned to write the Bobbsey Twins series at any given time. In 1904, Edward Stratemeyer wrote the first installment in the Bobbsey Twin series: The Bobbsey Twins, or Merry Days Indoor and Out. Mershon published it in 1904.

A debate rages as to the authorship of books 2 and 3. They are traditionally attributed to Edward Stratemeyer, but other Bobbsey experts assert that Lilian C. Garis, wife of Stratemeyer writer, Howard R. Garis, wrote them.

Lilian's husband, Howard R. Garis, wrote the Bobbsey Twins series from 1913 to 1935. He is responsible for books 4-28 and book 41. The series was completed by Harriet S. Adams (books 36-40, 42-48), Andrew E. Svenson (books 49-52), June M. Dunn (books 53-59), Grace Grote (books 60-67) and Nancy S. Axelrad (books 68-72).
