Author Notes:      Author Richard D. Whiteford works with state and federal governments to preserve ecologically important land in Pennsylvania. He has authored hundreds of newspaper and journal articles and formerly wrote a weekly series about endangered species for the Philadelphia Inquirer . Richard frequently appears as a keynote speaker at events and a guest teacher at universities. He lives in Downington, Pennsylvania. 
     Photographer Michael P. Gadomski worked as a Pennsylvania State Park Naturalist and Ranger for 25 years before devoting himself full-time to nature photography. A native of the Poconos, Michael works to capture light and compositions not usually seen by the casual observer. His photographs have appeared in hundreds of publications and calendars worldwide. Michael lives in Sterling, Pennsylvania.      Edward G. Rendell has served as the governor of Pennsylvania since 2003. His accomplishments including signing into law Growing Greener II, an initiative that preserves natural areas and open spaces, protects working farms, cleans up rivers and streams, takes on environmental problems at abandoned mines and contaminated industrial sites, improves state parks.
