| Author Notes: | Darrin M. McMahon was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, and Yale University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1997. He is the author of Enemies of the Enlightenment: The French Counter-Enlightenment and the Making of Modernity . A former visiting faculty member at Columbia, Yale, and New York University, McMahon is currently a professor at Florida State University. He has written over twenty articles on various aspects of European history, culture, and politics for such publications as The Wall Street Journal , The Boston Globe , and Daedalus . |
