Shortly after he was born, Foley's family moved to Setauket, New York, where Foley attended Ward Melville High School. From May 7 to July 1, 1999, Foley wrote his autobiography, Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks. It became hugely popular and topped The New York Times bestseller list for several weeks. The follow-up, Foley Is Good: And the Real World Is Faker than Wrestling, was published in 2001 and debuted at number one on the Times list.
