For her role as the title character on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown, she won five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards as Best Actress in a TV Comedy. She is also an Academy Award nominee. Bergen was born in Beverly Hills, California. Her father, Edgar Bergen, was a famous ventriloquist, comedian, and actor.
