From WHAT WAITS IN THE WOODSA sudden loud crack sounded in the trees. Callie grabbed Jeremy's arm and whirled around. "What was that?" she whispered. "God, Callie. Chill," Lissa said. "It was just a branch breaking or something. Are you gonna be like this the entire time? Because if you are I'm taking you back right now." Callie wasn't listening. There was a shift in the corner of her vision. A hulking movement deep within the forest. It was there, and then it was gone. Her grip on Jeremy tightened. "There's something out there," Callie insisted, her heart thudding. Something, or someone? "Come on, Cal." Penelope tugged on Callie's backpack as Lissa rolled her eyes. "It's fine. It might have been a deer." Callie took a deep breath. Her friends were right. She needed to rein it in. Still, a chill raced down her back as she glanced over her shoulder at the suspicious spot in the woods. There was nothing there. Seeing things. You were just seeing things.
