Author Notes: Daniel Knox first learned how to make and build things in his grandad's workshop. Now, Daniel manages the running of 'The Shed', an open access workshop at the University of Kent that provides space and machinery for students to work on practical projects. Daniel also helps run TinkerSoc, a student society whose antics have included building 'spud' cannons and engaging in ant-weight robot wars.
