Author Notes: Adam Hamilton, senior pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, was born on July 12, 1964. He grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Blue Valley High School. He completed his BA at Oral Roberts University and graduate school at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

Hamilton delivered the sermon at the Inaugural Prayer Service held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., following the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.

He has written many books explaining questions of faith in a down-to-earth fashion. His titles include: Not a Silent Night: Mary Looks back to Bethlehem, Making Sense of the Bible, The Journey, The Way, 24 Hours that Changed the World, Enough, Why: Making Sense of God's Will, When Christians Get it Wrong, Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White, and Creed: What Christians Believe and Why.
