Author Notes: J. L. Powers is a writer based in Northern California. She is a regular contributor to The Pirate Tree, a blog on social justice and children's literature. Her novels include The Confessional (2007) and This Thing Called the Future (2011). She has written a novel for children entitled Amina: Through My Eyes. It was one of two books selected for the 2016 United States Board of Books for Young People (USBBY) list of Outstanding International Books for children and young adults (grades six-to-eight age category).
