"The original lists from which the following schedules are drawn are in the collections of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. This abstract includes the original three Pennsylvania counties of Philadelphia, Bucks and Chester, as well as the three lower counties of New Castle, Kent and Sussex which form the present State of Delaware. Regarding the spelling of the names, these tend to be phonetic as are most names recorded in the Colonial period in Pennsylvania. This work has been amended in mid-1994 to include Part VII which is a copy of the petition of the free-men of the Province to the Assembly at Philadelphia on 10 May 1692 asking relief from the proposed tax."-- page iii. |
