Summary: Winner of the 2020 European Union Prize for Literature, Lana Bastasic's powerful debut novel Catch the Rabbit is an emotionally rich excavation of the complicated friendship between two women in a fractured, post-war Bosnia as they venture into the treacherous terrain of the Balkan wonderlands and their own history.
When Sara receives a call from Lejla to return to Bosnia, she surprises herself by immediately saying yes--since she hasn't spoken to Lejla since college. Lejla wants Sara to drive them from Mostar to Vienna, where Lejla's brother Armin has just been found--Armin disappeared as a young man during the Bosnian War. What follows is a road trip--one that begins to stretch back into the past. Sara is forced to reconsider the things she thought she understood growing up and the things that separated her and Lejla.
