Author Notes: Ajuan Mance is a visual artist, author, editor, and professor of English at Mills College in Oakland, California. Inspired by Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day? , she created the groundbreaking series 1001 Black Men, a collection of portraits produced over six and a half years that evolved into this book.
