| Summary: | In a chaotic sea of familiar sequels, remakes and movies based on popular toys and video games, a singular, original film from the 1980s sails smoothly into our hearts. The Goonies is a wildly imaginative movie that's equal parts crime caper, juvenile teen comedy, action-adventure, romance, social statement and family crowd-pleaser. There's even a jump scare in the reveal of John Matuszak's Sloth, and all of it is set to a cool pop soundtrack led by Cyndi Lauper. But the reason the Steven Spielberg-produced, Richard Donner-directed and Chris-Columbus-penned movie endures is the friendship between misfit kids at the center of it all. In The Unofficial Fan Guide to The Goonies, we trace the origins of the film, reveal behind-the-scenes stories of its creation, see where the cast are now and speculate on a possible sequel. There's even a special pirate-worthy foldout for you to discover! |
