| Summary: | When Star Wars promoted Leia Organa from a princess to a general, it was also an affirmation for Carrie Fisher. If her initial celebrity was an accident of birth to Hollywood royalty Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, she earned the admiration of fans around the world all by herself, first as an actor and then as a screenwriter, novelist and mental health activist. Most of all, she was a storyteller of glorious wit and keen observation, which made her a standing-room-only performer in one-woman shows based on her memoirs (and a frequent talk-show guest). As she wrote, "If my life wasn't funny it would just be true, and that is unacceptable." In The Story of Carrie Fisher, we recall and celebrate the memory of a singular talent. |
