Description
Summary:Assistant district attorney Eunice Carter, Manhattan's first Black female prosecutor, develops a strategy to prosecute organized crime boss Charles 'Lucky' Luciano by targeting his involvement in prostitution rather than his more visible criminal enterprises. Unable to build the case alone, she forms an uneasy alliance with brothel owner Polly Adler, whose workers have been endangered by Luciano's expanding control. Drawing on a network of women from sharply different social worlds, the two gather evidence against Luciano while risking retaliation from the criminal organization. Set in New York City, the novel centers on the collaboration that leads to a landmark organized crime trial.
