Summary:"Freedom feels like hugs and kisses, unity, strength and pride. Freedom feels like a million steps forward--together with every stride. From award-winning indie publisher Little Feminist Press comes an engaging board book celebrating Juneteenth and its powerful history. Bursting with beautiful, community-sourced photographs, this board book features powerful images of Black joy, allyship from all demographics, and the many ways people can celebrate this important American holiday. Showcasing real families and communities, young readers will see festivities and merriment in action as kids, their adoring adult caretakers, and their neighbors share stories, prepare meals, listen, hug, dance, show kindness, demonstrate bravery, and step in to help their families and communities. The book also includes family discussion questions and a note for grownups on how to use this book with young children"-- Provided by publisher.

Author Notes:Little Feminist Press is an intersectional collective and indie publisher dedicated to creating and curating diverse, inclusive stories for young children. Their mission is to fill crucial gaps in children's literature through anti-racist, body-positive, and LGBTQI+ books. They are located in Oakland, California. Ashley Jefferson is an accomplished early childhood educator and well-known play enthusiast who hails from Boston and currently lives near Atlanta. As a trailblazer in creating quality children's programming and products, she brings over 20 years of diverse experience as an early-childhood teacher, museum curator, and performer. She is the visionary founder behind Play Plan Afrikan Kids, an initiative focused on early learning and outdoor education, and Nguzo Babies, a children's edutainment brand that employs puppetry arts for storytelling. Her dedication to supporting families with young children is driven by a passion for restoring the beauty of childhood and enriching family pastimes. Dolisha Mitchell is a mom, author, and founder of the Black Kidlit Collective, a resource celebrating picture books by Black authors and illustrators. With over 10 years of experience in early-childhood education, she's worked as a teacher, social-emotional learning coach, and curriculum developer. When not immersed in books, she enjoys dance parties with her toddler, cooking with her husband, and crafting. Mitchell holds an MA in teaching from the University of South Carolina and lives in Atlanta with her family.
